We get stuck in our past so easily. Stuck in our histories, feeling sunk by our mistakes, shaken by our side-steps, carrying the baggage of past sins, holding onto past hurts. These things form sort of a play list of one hit wonders, like an old mixed tape we made, that stay playing on shuffle-repeat and keep us from having joy.
The gospel changes all that.
The good news of who Jesus is and what he has done is like a time machine, because what Jesus has done in the past on the cross changes your past and forms your new future.
We saw this on Sunday from Philippians 3:12-16, that you can now have joy in Jesus because Jesus enables you to forget the past and live for future hope, forever.
This coming Sunday we’ll see how the Bible speaks about hell, not with tacky triumphalism – but with tears.
