Why is the New Year so noteworthy?
Oprah Winfrey said, “Cheers to a New Year, and another chance for us to get it right!”
Bill Vaughn said, “An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.”
And even for those who don’t want to pay attention to New Years, they might say something like, “Many years ago I resolved never to bother with New Year’s resolutions, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.”
Well, over the last couple of weeks we have heard it said everywhere, from the cheerful person at the grocery checkout to the postman and our neighbours over the fence: “Happy New Year!” …So, what is the trend? Why is the New Year noteworthy? It’s because we want change, we want the chance to be better.
But does it work?
How may we have a happy really new year? On Sunday we heard the answer from 2nd Corinthians 5:11-21.
You can hear more about finding happiness, real meaning in life, by coming along for the rest of January as we hear how Jesus solves our search for meaning from the Book of Ecclesiastes.
May you have a really new year by having new life in Jesus Christ.
