At Reforming Morning we are starting into the Book of Ephesians. It’s a great little letter by Paul that lights up our world showing what God has done in the person of Jesus Christ.
God has given us grace, and so He gets all the glory.
God gives us Jesus as our good Lord and Saviour, by grace. God saves us by grace. God shapes us by grace. Everything we have is by God’s grace. This means that ‘grace’ is not just something we say at the dinner table, it’s a word that describes what is in a sense indescribable: that God is unrelentingly favourable towards us. He is the God of all grace.
And here’s the beauty of being saved by God’s grace, it changes everything for us now and forever. God’s grace is not like that Christmas present you have but didn’t really want and pay no attention to now anyway, nope, God gives us reforming grace.
Grace saves us and shapes us, reforms us and remakes us, today. So join us on Sunday mornings and see how God’s reforming grace in Jesus Christ changes you.
Title: ‘Grace & Glory’
Big Idea: That God’s plan for the universe, for us, is that God is saving a people for Himself by grace, and therefore God get’s all the glory.
Title: ‘Saved by grace’
Big Idea: We were dead, spiritually dead. But now we are saved by grace alone. This is forms a great string of truths we hold together, that we are saved through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed in the Scriptures alone, to the glory of God alone. By the grace of God we who were once separated from God, and hostile toward him, now have peace with God and one another. This peace we shall remember on ANZAC Day weekend, lest we forget the God who makes peace by grace.
Title: ‘Powered by grace’
Big Idea: What was once a mystery in former times of the Old Testament, how would God save the nations from their sins, has now been revealed in the gospel. The good news is that Jesus gives us the confidence that we have peace with God forever. So we have no need to lose heart, but pray to know the love of Christ more and more.
- Ephesians 4:1 – 16
Title: ‘Grow up! By grace.’
Big Idea: It’s a common mistake to think that we as Christians create unity – we don’t. Rather, we maintain the unity that has been created for us in the gospel. Being united to Christ and one another means that we now are to arrive to the unity of faith in Christ, and this will see us grow up as Christians.
- Ephesians 4:17 – 5:14
Title: ‘Reforming by the good news of grace’
Big Idea: Becoming a Christian is a change of life. A transformed life – from being an enemy of God to a friend, by grace. And a reformed life – from walking in a particular lifestyle that was bad for you, to God’s new way in walking like Jesus which is so, so good for you. We are to be reforming by the good news of Jesus.
- Ephesians 5:15 – 6:9
Title: ‘God’s will for your life, shaped by grace’
Big Idea: God has a plan and purpose for your life that is mapped out in the Scriptures, it shapes single and married people, children and parents, workers and bosses, even Uni & Tafe college students. See how grace shapes everything.
- Ephesians 6:10 – 24
Title: ‘Grace-plated armour’
Big Idea: A motor-cycle rider wears a helmet and protective clothing for good reason – and we need the armour of God. It’s not an optional extra, but what exactly is it? We will see in the finish of this book of the Bible, as Paul writes to the Ephesian Christians and to us, he shows us how to wear the grace of God as our armour against all things we face.
